Where it All Started

TerraSana Farms didn’t begin with a business plan. It began with a smiley face sprayed into our yard.

My husband and I had seen a post about what a common commercial bug spray could do to grass, and we decided to test it ourselves. We sprayed a smiley face into our lawn—and that smiley face stayed there, dead, for two growing seasons.

That got our attention.

We started questioning some of the products we were using around ourselves and our family and began looking for simpler alternatives. One of the first things I made was our own bug spray.

It worked well for us, so we shared it with friends who spent a lot of time outdoors, on the river, and farming. They loved it too.

Turning Point

Not long after that first experiment, my life changed in a much more personal way.

I was involved in a side-by-side accident that left me dealing with significant neuropathy in both arms. After surgery on one arm made things worse, everyday tasks became difficult. I struggled to hold things, and the constant nerve sensations interfered with daily life.

That sent me searching for other options, and eventually I discovered magnesium.

I began making magnesium products for myself, and my experience with them changed my world. I was able to start holding things again without constantly feeling like I was being zapped. As I continued learning, magnesium also became something I reached for as part of my routine for occasional headaches, relaxation, and sleep.

More importantly, the experience changed the way I looked at the products we used every day.

I started asking a simple question:

What else could we make ourselves?

    What started as me making products for our own family has grown into a true family business.

    Everything we offer is hand-batched and locally made, but TerraSana Farms has never been a one-person operation. My husband is our behind-the-scenes woodworker, helping create the displays and pieces that bring our booth together. My daughter is our graphic designer, helping give TerraSana its look and personality, and her partner helps with our marketing.

    As we've grown, so has our product line—but the heart of what we do has stayed the same: creating products we feel good about using ourselves and sharing with other families.

Today, TerraSana Farms has grown from one little experiment into a full line of products we're proud of. You can find us at markets and events throughout Southeast Nebraska, as well as in local retail locations that carry our products.

Everything is still hand-batched with the same care that went into the products we first made for our own family. We're constantly learning, creating, and finding new ways to offer simpler alternatives for everyday life.

We've grown a lot from where we started, but the heart of TerraSana Farms hasn't changed: simple products, thoughtful ingredients, and a family business built from the ground up.
